Pilkington Activ was launched in the spring of 2001 which was the worlds first solar powered self-cleaning glass.

Using the suns UV energy, this glass is kept clean naturally by a two step process.

Organic dirt and residue has its grip or bonding to the glass surface impeded by the coatings inherent photo active properties.

Then dirt is washed off of the glass using the coatings hydrophilic action during periods of rain.

Side by side, a comparison of Activ and conventional glass is immediately noticeable when comparing glass clarity after it has rained and the activ coating has worked its magic.
